* New CDC Guidance Says Older Adults Should ‘Stay at Home as Much as Possible’ Due to Coronavirus

“The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is encouraging older adults and people with severe chronic medical conditions to “stay at home as much as possible” during the novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States. The CDC noted that early data suggests older people are twice as likely to become seriously ill from the virus, while a Trump administration official said the Department of Health and Human Services “is in the process of doing targeted outreach to the [senior] community and those that have serious underlying health conditions.” Two top infectious disease experts also are advising people over 60 and those with underlying health problems to avoid activities involving large crowds — including air travel, going to cinemas, attending family events and religious services, and shopping at crowded malls.”

We believe based on this update from the CDC it is warranted, as precautionary measure, to suspend scheduled outings and all events, parties, gatherings involving families, friends, guests until further notice. We know these outings and guest-invited gatherings provide you, our residents, with fulfilling opportunities as well as necessity trips to and from stores. For the wellbeing of our communities we feel it is important at this time to cancel all of these events.

Lifestyle Modifications to Date:

  • Increased housekeeping services in all common areas with more frequent wipe-downs of high traffic areas.

  • Notices prompting visitors to assess their risk of being a carrier of the virus and self-select out of entering the properties if there is any concern.

  • All company sponsored external outings are temporarily canceled until further notice.

  • All events that welcome external guests into the properties or gather large crowds have been canceled until further notice.

  • Communications posted on proper safety and handwashing recommendations by the CDC.

  • All non-essential Liv Communities team members have been asked to refrain from visiting properties.

  • Resident’s families have been asked to self-evaluate visiting properties and have been encouraged to show love via alternative resources: notes, flowers, facetime calls.

Your commitment to our Liv Well principles is the front line of protection against the spread of this virus:

  • Be extra diligent on washing hands (20 second rule) and using hand sanitizer when soap and water are not present.

  • Consider different greetings beyond the common handshake, hug or cheek kiss.

  • Ask family members and friends to refrain from visiting if they are feeling ill or have been near anyone who is ill.

  • If you are not feeling well (i.e. experiencing cough, fever and/or shortness of breath), notify a Liv team member and self-isolate. If you feel you need to call a healthcare provider to schedule a health visit, let a team member know so we can support you.

  • Wipe down shared surfaces and common areas before and after use.

  • Eat well and get sufficient rest to reduce stress and maintain a higher level of general health.

  • Get your flu vaccine if you have not already. It’s not too late, and while it will not combat coronavirus, it will help fight off other illnesses that could weaken your immune system. Please do not take the vaccine if against medical recommendations.
